Five core principles represented through TRUST:
Supported teachers are the KEY to student success!
The nation is faced with a rapidly growing shortage of teachers. Teachers are leaving the profession in droves, citing low pay and increasing demands, coupled with a lack of administrative support, as reasons for their premature exit.
This has to change!
It is critical teachers are included in the decision-making process both at the district and school level. The School Board's role is to ensure teachers have the tools necessary to serve students and to insist they have a welcomed voice around the decision-making table.
Schools must serve the changing demands of the 21st century global workforce. They must prepare students for whatever post-secondary endeavor they wish to pursue. The School Board must equip administrators and teachers with the necessary tools to serve the diverse needs of students.
For too long, Charleston County's stakeholders have been divided when speaking out on issues relevant to its public schools. School Board leaders must unite, instead of divide, ALL stakeholders in order to serve the needs of its students.
Schools must provide students and teachers with a safe learning environment, which involves ensuring that proper discipline plans and practices are in place to both prevent and remediate student behavioral issues.
The School Board must work closely with local municipalities and business partners to ensure new schools are designed and older schools are renovated with the most up-to-date school security.
Too many of Charleston's tax dollars are being spent outside of the classroom. School Board members must be open, accessible, and accountable to the public. This starts with having School Board members who have educational knowledge and expertise as well as who understand the day-to-day operations of a classroom/school.
